Hobart is home to a lobster fleet of 24 boats, with the lobster season running from March to February. During the season an average of 24 tonnes of lobster are caught and exported each year.
The Australian Southern Rocklobster (Jasus edwardsii) is amongst the worlds rarest and most sought after crustaceans. Catches are controlled with strict quotas and our pots are specifically designed to allow undersized lobsters to escape, while female lobsters laden with eggs are immediately returned to the sea. The industry protects the wider marine environment by adhering to strict environmental practices through the independently 3rd party audited “Clean Green” program.
